Hooder is internet slang for a person who spends most of their time trading low-cap, high-risk memecoins (commonly called shitcoins) on Robinhood memecoins. A hooder is typically a high-frequency, low-conviction memecoin trader who hops from one newly launched token to the next, chasing pumps, bonding curves, and early-entry opportunities. The term is used both self-deprecatingly inside crypto Twitter / Telegram groups and pejoratively by people who view the activity as degenerate gambling. Hooders are known for living in “the hood” — constantly refreshing Robinhood memecoins, Dexscreener, and Telegram alpha groups.

Origin

The exact first use of “hooder” in this context is unclear, but the term gained traction in 2024–2025 as Robinhood memecoins exploded in popularity. It evolved from earlier crypto slang around “being in the hood” (grinding low-cap plays). By mid-2025 the word had become a common label for dedicated Robinhood memecoin degens.

Spread

The term spread rapidly across Crypto Twitter, Telegram trading groups, and TikTok. Users began calling themselves or others “hooders” in the same way earlier generations used “degen” or “jeet.” Memes depicting hooders as sleep-deprived, chart-obsessed figures staring at Robinhood memecoin charts became common. The word is now regularly used in both ironic and serious discussion of Robinhood memecoin culture.
